Fall 2020 Opening Plan

Hello everyone!

We hope you are all staying safe and healthy and enjoying the warm Summer weather.

Now that schools have released their opening plans and we have more guidance, want to take a moment to address how Kids’ Place will be modifying our preschool program this Fall in light of COVID-19.  We take the health and safety of our children, families and teachers very seriously and will be following all guidelines as set forth by the CDC, State and Local authorities.  In addition to the below health and safety guidelines, our teachers are working very hard to create plans around safe low/no contact instruction with individual and small groups, as well as safe outdoor activities when the weather cooperates.  They are collaborating with other preschool teachers and gathering lots of ideas that will allow our children to continue to grow educationally, socially and emotionally.

Paperwork night will still be held on August 8.  Please keep an eye out for more details on the time. We do ask that you please email Amanda, our registrar, at registrar.kidsplace@gmail.com if you are committing to come in the fall so that we can work out our class dynamics and plan as soon as possible.

We understand that you may have question and concerns.  Please feel free to call me or email us and we’ll do our best to get you the answers you need.  We want everyone to feel comfortable that we are doing everything in our power to keep everyone safe, healthy, and happy.

Take care

Health and Safety

To address health and safety, we are implementing the following policies and procedures:

  • We will be installing a HEPA filter in the school.

  • Masks will be required for teachers.

  • Masks for students will be optional but HIGHLY recommended for all students per the CDC and NYS reopening guidelines (children over 2yo should wear a mask).  We may have students that are medically intolerant of wearing masks and want to allow for this as well.  With the majority of students wearing masks, we will be protecting those that are unable to wear a mask.

We will provide frequent mask breaks for those wearing masks when social distancing can be maintained.  Some such instances are:

    • Snack time

    • While outside

    • While doing small group work at tables while they are socially distanced

  • Please try to get your student accustomed to wearing a mask for longer periods of time if they aren’t already.  Start with short periods and slowly increase the amount of time they are wearing them.  Your child may also be more tolerant of wearing a neck gaiter.  I wear one while coaching soccer and it stays better for me while running as it doesn’t go around the ears and you don’t have to worry about exactly sizing the mask so it fits around the ears.

  • Drop off and pick up will be done at the side door.  Please make sure you are wearing your mask and maintaining distancing guidelines.

  • We will be taking the temperature of both teachers and students upon arrival.  If their temperature is over 100F, we will ask that they be brought home until their temperature returns to normal unaided by medicine.

  • Upon arrival, children will be asked to use hand sanitizer or wash their hands.

  • As is always our practice, tables will be wiped down and children will wash their hands before snack time.

  • Each student will have their own labeled art supplies box.  We will be asking parents to provides items.  A list will be sent home to include things like markers, crayons, pencils.

  • We will NOT be using the sensory table at this time.

  • We will attempt to socially distance as much as possible during reading time, snack time and other group instruction times.

  • We will NOT have daily, in-class aiding duties at this time.  We may ask that when the weather is nice, the family assigned for the day come at the end of the day while the children are outside to perform a cleaning of the classroom as usual.

  • The family will still be responsible for snack on the day assigned.

While we assume everyone would take appropriate precautions in preparing a snack including wearing a mask and gloves, we feel like this would be a significant inconvenience to our families.  There are unfortunately many times where people are asymptomatic or not yet symptomatic and could unknowingly be causing an exposure, even if transmission from contact is minimal.  We’d like to make the following modification:

Snacks provided by parents should be pre-packaged from the manufacturer.  Examples include:

    •     Individual bags of pre-sliced apples

    •     Pre-packaged gold fish

    •     Pre-packaged fruit snacks

  • When it is your child’s special day, we encourage them to bring in an item for show and tell as we unfortunately cannot allow an adult into the classroom.

  • Weekend cleaning will have an updated task list that will include deeper cleaning and disinfecting.

We ask that you take your child’s temperature before leaving for school.  If their temperature is over 100F, we will ask that they stay home.  They may not return to school until 24 hours after their temperature returns to normal unaided by medicine.

We also ask that your child stay home if they aren’t feeling well in general.  As symptoms of COVID-19 include those seen in the cold and flu as well.

Please see the CDC’s website which contains information about Symptoms, a self-check, and other guidance.

In general, we are requiring that children and staff stay home from school for 14 days following the last potential exposure, if any member of the household has (or may have) a suspected or confirmed case of COVID-19

If you have recently traveled to an area in the New York State (https://coronavirus.health.ny.gov/covid-19-travel-advisory) or National Travel Advisory areas (https://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/notices), we are asking you to abide by the quarantine period and refrain from sending you child to school for 14 days upon your return.
